Social Workers Celebrate Innovations in Healthcare

Belleville, Ill. (PRWEB) March 13, 2012

Social workers have the ability to respond quickly to changing internal and external environments, according to the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care (SSWLHC). During National Social Work Month in March, Allsup, a nationwide provider of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) representation and Medicare plan selection services, salutes social workers for their ability to adapt and respond to the needs of clients and family, members and the profession.

This month highlights the many roles and contributions of healthcare social workers, said Anthony Yamamoto, president of the SSWLHC and director of social work and child development at Childrens Hospital Central California in Madera, Calif. Social workers are representative in the full continuum of care as part of the medical team. With healthcare reform and changes in the delivery of care, social workers are expected to take an expanded role. In the upcoming conference, we will have the opportunity to share and explore these changes.

Social work professionals nationwide will gather in Denver on Oct. 31-Nov. 3, 2012, for the SSWLHCs 47th annual meeting and conference. The theme of the conference is Social Work in Health Care Reform: Leading the Charge to the Summit.

The SSWLHC conference will feature new methods in healthcare delivery, techniques used by social workers to meet the challenges of healthcare reform, efforts to measure the impact of social work in healthcare, managing transitions and access to care with community partners, and innovative clinical intervention in traditional healthcare settings.

Allsup commends all social workers who use their individual and collective voices to influence change related to healthcare and social justice issues. Free posters highlighting National Social Work Month are available through Allsup to hospitals, clinics and other community groups by calling Karen Hercules-Doerr at (800) 854-1418, ext. 65770.
